A reclaimed wood coffee table is built from salvaged timber rather than new-milled stock, which is why the grain is tighter and the surface already carries marks. Ours sit 16 to 19 inches high with tops 39 to 47 inches across, in reclaimed pine, aged oak and bleached elm. Thirty-six in stock, $100 to $3,000, delivered in-room.

What we stock

Round reclaimed pine with low dual-surface tops, square pine with stone tops, bleached elm rounds on cross bases, and teak root pieces. Heights run 16 to 19 inches, which is the range that works against a standard sofa seat. No metal hardware on the wood pieces, and the grain is left visible rather than filled.

The buying decision

Height first. A coffee table should land close to the seat height of the sofa it serves. Ours run 16 to 19 inches, which covers most seating. Then shape: round is right for a room people walk through and for households with small children, square or rectangular for a room where the table gets used as a surface. Stone tops take drinks without marking and weigh considerably more. Wax-finished tops need re-waxing twice a year and can be repaired at home, which a lacquered top cannot.

What is the difference between a reclaimed and an aged oak coffee table?

Reclaimed means the timber was pulled from an older structure and re-milled. Aged oak describes the finish applied to the surface. A table can be one, the other, or both.

Do reclaimed wood coffee tables mark easily?

A waxed pine top will take a water ring if a glass sits on it, and the ring can be waxed out. That is the trade for a surface you can repair yourself.
